According to one of the legends​, Rabaris are the descendants of Lord Shiva, who had given Sambal, one of his minions, three apsaras, to marry and flourish with a condition that he will not speak one word to them. ​If he does not hold his promise and speaks to apsaras, the apsaras would ​go. ​They married, had 4 daughters and one son and soon their families grew. Shiva asked them to relocate and since then Sambal was called Rabari.
